NY Ensemble Classes is a music school that offers jazz trumpet and trombone lessons in the form of ensemble workshops.
Ensemble Workshops are weekly classes where a full jazz band gets together and – under the guidance of teaching artists – works on various subjects related to performing jazz in a live setting.
Improvising, comping, developing a repertoire, working on different harmonic structures, song forms and styles, developing better solos, interplay, performance ear training, music theory: these are just a few of the subjects covered in class.
In other words, ensemble classes are the ultimate arena for all jazz musicians – including trumpet and trombone players – to work on their skills in the context that matters the most: live.
Our unique course system features a two-part approach:
- Classes are taught by two instructors
- A rotation allows multiple teaching artists to work with each ensemble
Our students get to study with multiple instructors specialized in different instruments and by doing so they are exposed to diverse experiences, musical preferences, individual styles and the personal perspectives that characterize each teaching artist.
We believe that musical exchange is crucial in inspiring the development of a music student, that’s why our instructors are directly involved with the ensembles, functioning as both band leaders and performers.
This system has proven to be greatly effective in creating an exceptionally focused yet relaxed learning environment while providing our students with the degree of attention they deserve.
We are conveniently located in the heart of Manhattan.
